Contorta Quercus is an exclusive type of wood flooring obtained straight from nature. The raw material is sourced through the meticulous selection of wild European Oak trees that have grown in woods or in the countryside and, over time, have been transformed by the effects of specific environmental conditions. Oak trees, which are contorted by nature, are shaped by the effects of the elements – wind, snow and dry or damp ground. Over the years, this creates twisted wood fibres and tones that differ from those of trees sourced from standard oak forests.
The knots and grain are so complex, they create “movement” within the planks. The flooring is produced by saw cutting – an operation that is handcrafted, with visible marks left by the teeth of the joinery’s authentic band saw – and completed with the Old Rural finish . Both of these steps help to give the floor a period look, as if plucked from the past, ready for use in a new, modern context.
